Outline of the profession
The professional life of a communication systems and informatics engineer is extremely varied and interesting. Even in smaller companies, extensive expertise is required to provide the company with an economical yet powerful IT infrastructure and operate it efficiently.
The enormous leaps forward in computing and communication systems and the corresponding business environment have led to a high degree of networking both within and between companies. The sensible use of all these resources relies on the ability of engineers to evaluate the rapidly advancing technology and its commercial aspects correctly, and to take the corresponding investment decisions.
The engineer's activities are therefore not restricted to mastery of technology, but are also characterised by ongoing communication with people, whether for consulting and project planning or the training and support of computer users, whether within the company or for clients of a service organization.
